Meet Laura and Steven, the co-owners of Muddy Feet Farm. What initially started as a farmers market stand selling produce from their urban farm quickly transformed into a budding cottage bakery business! Laura is the baker here at Muddy Feet Farm; with a degree in Environmental Science, many years farming around the world, and a love for sourdough bread (and pretzels, crackers, waffles, bagels, pancakes, etc) that can't be tamed. She is eager to provide fresh bread for her friends and neighbors right here in Des Moines. While Laura is in charge of most of the mixing and baking, Steven helps with all of the behind the scenes logistics and this business could not run without all of his help. Laura and Steven have been married for nine years and have two sweet boys who love to help in the kitchen whenever possible. When they're not baking, you can find them reading, traveling, preserving food from the garden, and going on walks.
Wait, you sell bread? I thought this was called Muddy Feed Farm? Great question! When we started this business, we thought we would be a farmers market stand selling produce, but decided to bring a few loaves of sourdough bread to our first market. We sold out of the bread almost instantly and realized how much people love home baked sourdough. We shifted our whole business towards bread making, became a certified home bakery, and have never looked back! We specialize in artisan sourdough loaves, sourdough cookies, sourdough scones and many other yummy products! We work to use as many fresh, organic, and local ingredients in our bread as possible to supply our customers with the freshest sourdough in town.
We try to use as many of our own organic farm products in our bread as possible: chives, garlic scapes, jalapeños, lavender, rosemary, sun-dried tomatoes, basil, and more! Everything we grow at Muddy Feet Farm is grown without the use of chemicals or sprays. We use regenerative agricultural practices to build up soil health and promote healthier plants. In addition to all of our bread add-ins, we also make jams and jellies with our home grown raspberries, sour cherries, grapes, mulberries, and black raspberries.
We are now open for Thanksgiving orders! If you would like to place an order, please follow this link and fill out the order form.
